Re: Amerindian navigators and Eurocentrism in scholarship

If a comet hit the earth this evening, and five thousand years later our
descendants (presuming some would survive) dug up "Golden Arches" all
over the surviving world, would they see any connection between them?

Sometimes I think the debate is more interesting than the matter.
Surely these cross-oceanic and cross-continental ancient connections are
just that, connections. Seems to be a peculiarly modern notion to stand
in front of tree and swear that there is no other tree like it, whilst a
whole forest of similar trees fades into the distance.
